Blackbaud Interactive was asked to create a unique microsite that embodies the spirit of the university and ignites interaction for a pivotal capital campaign.

For 125 years, IIT’s faculty, students and alumni have fostered entrepreneurial innovation to drive our economy and change the world. With an eye towards the future, the “Fueling Innovation” campaign strives to help the university be known as one of the world’s leading technology-focused, research universities for generations to come. It seeks to raise $250 million to help the school push boundaries and invest in the future. The spirit of the campaign is to illustrate how donor involvement is a catalyst for innovation by telling the remarkable stories of faculty, students and alumni.

Striking visuals are combined with a dynamic user experience

Blackbaud Interactive designed a unique, eye-catching grid structure to showcase each story of innovation on the website. Prominent running tallies and call-outs encourage donations, from alumni in particular.

It’s the story behind the person that makes them colorful

Black and white head shots of featured individuals were placed on the checkerboard grid layout. As visitors hover over, the photo drops down and reveals a teaser inviting them to learn more. When visitors click to learn more, the black and white image gives way to a page in full color, a visual cue that the “full color” story behind each individual is being revealed.

IIT introduced the new website at their “Fueling Innovation” campaign launch event.

“At our campaign launch event, the unveiling of the campaign micro-site was most impactful. There was hardly a time when people weren’t playing on the site, reading the stories, and talking about how striking the site looks and how easy it is to use.”

-Illinois Institute of Technology

The launch of the new site was the buzz at a campus-wide campaign event

A wall of iPads allowed groups of students to simultaneously explore the new microsite. The wall became a hub of excitement at the campus event, as students interacted with the stories and each other.
